General Comments.
(
Brief data summary
and
scan listing
)
X-band fringe test and NME observed on 20 October 2003 (session 3/2003). Only the NME part was pipelined; this was observed in RCP only, at 256 Mbps data rate. Participating telescopes were Ef, Mc, Nt, On, Sh, Ur, Wb, and Hh. Yebes did not take part due to antenna control failure. Effelsberg recorded on Mk5 only. Some other stations recorded in piggyback mode (both disks and tape), the tape was used for correlation. In Noto tracks two and three were dead (also in other NMEs), the corresponding channels were flagged. All piggyback experiments (NMEs and fringe tests) were affected in Noto, but the tape-only ones had no problems.
In Wb there was an antenna control problem at the beginning. Hh could not see the sources in the second half of the experiment.
The ratio of expected to the observed number of visibilities is estimated as ERI = 0.746 (Ef=1.0, Mc=1.0, Nt=0.75, Wb=0.5, On=0.8, Ur=1.0, Sh=1.0, Hh=1.0 (for 1/2 of the exp.)). The data losses were all due to technical problems (ERI*=ERI).
Plots of the autocorrelations
.
Comments.
Nt: two channels (R1 & R5) completely missing because of two dead tracks.
On: the autocorrelation amplitude was very low due
to not ideal sampler statistics (this was corrected for before pipelining). Probably the whole session was affected.
Hh: the
even numbered channels had strange spectrum with a deep minimum in the centre of the band
Plots of the uncalibrated amplitude and phase against time
.
Comments.
Wb: no detection till 12:00.
Nt: R1 and R5 missing due to the dead tracks, see note above.
Plots of the uncalibrated amplitude and phase against frequency
channel
.
Comments.
Ef: R7 and R8 had very low amplitude.
Wb: no fringes till 12:00.
Nt: R1 and R3 missing due to the dead tracks, see note above. The bandpass was far from ideal.
TSYS against time
.
Comments.
Telescope sensitivities
from the a priori TSYS and Gain curves (the square of this
number gives the antenna noise (SEFD) in Jy - the smaller the better).
Comments.
Ur: a little bit less sensitive than expected (SEFD=450 Jy, see the EVN Status Tables).
Hh: much less sensitive than expected (SEFD=940 Jy).
Fringe-fit phase solutions
(including Parallactic Angle correction).
Comments.
Fringe-fit delay solutions
.
Comments.
Wb: no fringes were found till 12:00, known problem (see above).
On: no solutions in scan near 11:40.
Fringe-fit rate solutions
.
Comments.
Wb: no fringes were found till 12:00, known problem (see above).
On: no solutions in scan near 11:40.
Telescope bandpasses
.
Comments.
Bandpass edges were flagged. Nt had a dip in the middle of each channel.
Hh: the even numbered channels have bit unusual bandpass.
Calibrated amplitude and phase against time
(a priori amplitude calibration and fringe-fit solutions applied).
Comments.
Calibrated amplitude and phase against frequency channel
.
Comments.
Ef: R7 and R8 had verey low amplitude signal; these were flagged prior to imaging.
Nt: all Nt data were flagged prior to imaging, because the amplitudes were very low on Nt baselines (would have corrupted gain calibration of other stations).

Telescope sensitivities
(the total AMP gain applied during
both a priori and self calibration; the square of this number gives the antenna
noise (SEFD) in Jy).
Comments.
Ef: R7 and R8 was flagged prior to imaging - these channels were very insensitive. Tsys seemed to be normal (see plots above).
Nt: much less sensitive than expected (flagged before imaging). The problem was related to piggyback recording (bad track assignment). User experiments were not affected.
Ur: a little bit less sensitive than expected (SEFD=450 Jy, see the EVN Status Tables).
Hh: much less sensitive than expected (SEFD=940 Jy).
