and
scan listing
)
C band (5 GHz) global VLBI experiment, observed on 24 October 2008. The data rate was 512 Mbps (4 x 16 MHz subbands, dual polarization, two-bit sampling). The target source 'Arp220' is calibrated using the phase-reference source 'J1532+2344'. 'J1613+3412' served as fringe finder. 'J1516+1932' and 'OQ208' were also observed as calibrators. Ef served as reference antenna. The plots show baselines to either Ef or Hn.
8 EVN stations (Ef, Wb, Jb, On, Mc, Nt, Tr, Ar) and 9 VLBA stations (Sc, Hn, Nl, Fd, La, Pt, Kp, Ov, Br) were scheduled in this experiment. Wb observed in phased array mode. Strong wind prevented On from observing. A detailed description of the individual antenna performances can be found in the PI letter in the section "Standardplots".
The EVN reliability indicator (ERI) for this experiment was
ERI = 0.75 . ERI* = 1.0 .
(Ef=1, Wb=1, Jb=1, On=0, Mc=1, Nt=1, Tr=1, Ar=1)
Plots of the autocorrelations
Comments.
in general, stable bandpasses; Wb: spiky but stable bandpasses; Jb: spiky but stable bandpasses, in particular IF1/L and IF2/L; Br: strong ringing in IF3/R+L ~17:35-18:00 UT, RFI?; 1030 pages
plots of the uncalibrated amplitude and phase
against time
Comments.
Kp: IF4/R missing at ~17-19 UT; 64 pages
Plots of the uncalibrated amplitude and phase
against frequency channel
Comments.
nothing unusual detected; 1457 pages
The uncalibrated amplitude and phase of the crosshand
correlations against frequency channel
Comments.
phases of (polarization) calibrators look good, in particular for EVN stations and Hn, Nl, Pt, Ar; some temporary glitches at individual stations; 773 pages
TSYS against time
Comments.
Fd: high Tsys in all IFs/pols at start of observations around ~13:30 UT; Kp: high Tsys in all IFs/pols at start of observations around ~14 UT; Ov: high Tsys in all IFs/pols at start of observations around ~14-15 UT; Br: jumpy Tsys in IF3/R+L at ~17:40-18:00 UT, probably related to bandpass problems mentioned above; 12 pages
Telescope sensitivities
from the a priori TSYS and Gain
curves (the square of this number gives the antenna noise (SEFD) in Jy - the
smaller the better).
Comments.
curves match closely those of T_sys vs. time; 12 pages
Fringe-fit phase solutions
(including Parallactic
Angle correction).
Comments.
reference antenna: Ef, drift in phases reflects the parallactic angle correction; fast phase rotation, when elevation of the source is low at the station or at Ef (19-20 UT); 12 pages
Fringe-fit delay solutions
Comments.
reference antenna: Ef; delays of the order of (a few tens of) nanoseconds, very few outliers; 12 pages
Fringe-fit rate solutions
Comments.
reference antenna: Ef; rates of the order of mHz, very few outliers; 12 pages
Telescope bandpasses
Comments.
reference antenna: Ef; bandpasses look good, phases close to zero; 4 pages
Calibrated amplitude and phase against time
(a
priori amplitude calibration and fringe-fit solutions applied).
Comments.
Hn: may want to flag end of second scan on fringe finder (scan #324) in IF3/R; 56 pages
Calibrated amplitude and phase against frequency
channel
Comments.
nothing unexpected detected; a few temporary glitches at individual stations, e.g. Fd/IF3/R at 17:58-18:00 UT; 1399 pages
