scan listing

C band (5 cm) network monitoring experiment (NME) and ftp fringe test, observed on 28 May 2009. There were three setups: The main setup consisted of 8 x 8MHz filters (= 4 subbands), yielding a data rate of 256 Mbps (dual polarization, two-bit sampling), and was used for scans #1-43. The last two scans of the schedule were observed with 8 x 4MHz filters and 16 x 2MHz filters, respectively, in order to test the clock offset of the stations as a function of filter bandwidth. These scans were not pipelined. (Note that the scan numbering in the scan summary listing differs from the one in the input files n09m2.key, n09m2.sum etc.) The target source 'J0916+3854' was calibrated using the phase-reference source '4C39.25'. '3C84' and 'DA193' were observed as calibrators. '4C39.25' also served as fringe finder. The known methanol maser source 'S231' was observed to provide additional real-time diagnostics to the stations.
9 stations participated in the experiment: Cm, Ef, Wb, Jb, On, Mc, Nt, Tr, and Ys. There were fringes to all stations. Cm had a bad disk, all data are lost until 15:15 UT. Wb observed in phased-array mode (TADUMAX) with 1 antenna. At Jb, the MkII telescope was used for this experiment. On joined the observations late at 13:15 UT because of high wind. Ys' polarizations were swapped in the first scans and were corrected after the first ftp fringe test revealed the problem. After correlation, we manually swapped the incorrect polarizations, so that all the data in the FITS files are labelled with the correct polarization. The clock at Wb jumped throughout the experiment from a few nsec to ~215 nsec and back. There were a few instances when a station lost a scan or recorded with weights = 0 (see Standardplots: weightplot).
The EVN reliability indicator (ERI) for this experiment was
ERI = 0.70 . ERI* = 0.79 .

Plots of the autocorrelations
Comments.
in general, stable bandpasses; Wb: wiggely bandpasses, but stable; Nt: missed scans #6-8 and most of scan #5, IF2/R has wiggely but stable bandpass; 68 pages
plots of the uncalibrated amplitude and phase
against time
Comments.
14:20-14:41 UT: scans of the maser source; Wb: fast phase rotation, jumps in amplitude of 4C39.25 at ~11:40 UT and ~13:50 UT, corresponding to clock jumps; On: at start of observations (after wind stop) amplitudes and phases noisier than usual, probably due to still strong wind; Mc: phases and amplitudes noisier than usual in the last scans; 16 pages
Plots of the uncalibrated amplitude and phase
against frequency channel
Comments.
even uncalibrated, phases can be followed easily; Wb: fast phase rotation at 11:44-13:45 UT (clock jumps!); bandpasses seem to be stable; 67 pages
The uncalibrated amplitude and phase of the crosshand
correlations against frequency channel
Comments.
phases of the calibrators look good, even uncalibrated; Wb: fast phase rotation at 11:44-13:45 UT (clock jumps!); 34 pages
TSYS against time
Comments.
Cm: uncalibrated data, DFPU adjusted to match nominal SEFD; On: T_sys in LCP a bit higher than in RCP; Mc: fewer T_sys values than usual (tpicd off); Nt: T_sys in RCP (IF2-4) a bit higher than in LCP; Tr: fewer T_sys values than usual (tpicd off); 8 pages
Telescope sensitivities
from the a priori TSYS and Gain
curves (the square of this number gives the antenna noise (SEFD) in Jy - the
smaller the better).
Comments.
Cm data flagged; 7 pages
Fringe-fit phase solutions
(including Parallactic
Angle correction).
Comments.
refant = Ef; Wb: fast fringe rotation; Mc: noisier than usual, in particular in the last 3 scans; a few glitches; 7 pages
Fringe-fit delay solutions
Comments.
refant = Ef; no solutions for scans of the maser source (14:20-14:42 UT); Wb: not surprisingly, huge delays during the clock jump at 11:40-13:50 UT; otherwise, delays of the order of (a few tens of) nanoseconds; Ys: switched pols at the start of the experiment (see above), jump in delays show when that problem was fixed (cables swapped); 7 pages
Fringe-fit rate solutions
Comments.
refant = Ef; looking good; in general, rates of the order of a few mHz, a bit larger for Mc; 7 pages
Telescope bandpasses
Comments.
refant = Ef; looking good; phases of Wb, Nt, Tr, and Ys deviate significantly from zero at the edges of the bandpasses; 2 pages
Calibrated amplitude and phase against time
(a
priori amplitude calibration and fringe-fit solutions applied).
Comments.
phases of calibrators close to zero, amplitudes look reasonable; Mc: phases and amplitudes a bit noisier than usual; 16 pages
Calibrated amplitude and phase against frequency
channel
Comments.
phases of calibrators close to zero; bandpasses look reasonable; 65 pages
