Brief data summary
and
scan listing
)
L-band continuum phase-referencing experiment, observed on 9 March 2005. The data rate was 128 Mbps which
resulted in 2x8 MHz channels in each polarizations. The target, IRAS17526+3253 was phase-referenced to
J1748+3404. 3C273, 3C345 and 3C454.3 were fringe-finders, 3C286 was observed for MERLIN amplitude
calibration.
There were 11 EVN stations in this experiment: Ef, Wb, Jb1, Cm, On25, Mc, Nt, Tr,
Ur, Sh and Hh. In Mc observations stopped between 07:29-09:15 UT because of antenna problems. Nt had
pointing problems (sources near zenith) between 5:00-6:00 UT. The Lovell telescope started at 23:01:22
UT; several calibrator scans were edited out from the schedule because of the slewing limitations. Hh
ended experiment early (~8 UT). Shanghai lost scans 10-13. Tr seemed to have a sensitivity problem (see
below).
The EVN Reliability Indicator (the ratio of the expected to the observed number of good
visibilities) is estimated as ERI=ERI*=0.694 (Ef=1.0, Wb=0.8, Jb1=0.95, Cm=1.0, On=1.0, Mc=0.9, Nt=1.0,
Tr=0.2, Ur=1.0, Sh=0.5, Hh=0.9). This does not count the phase-reference scan losses at Jodrell Bank due
to the telescope slewing limitations, which was known before the observations.
Late note: the no
fringes in Sh L1/R1 channels was related to a correlator problem. A new flag file was made.
Plots of the autocorrelations

Comments.
Some RFI in On L2/R2. Weak RFI in Mc R1.
Plots of the uncalibrated amplitude and phase against time
.
Comments.
Wb: no fringes at the beginning hour, and about 1h data are missing around 9 UT.
Mc: data missing around 8 UT (see above).
Hh: sources below horizon at start; stopped for a short time at around 8 UT; finished a bit early.
Sh: trouble with L1/R1? (BBC#1,#2); "holes" in data indicate sources unavailable

TSYS against time
.
Comments.
Telescope sensitivities
from the a priori TSYS and Gain curves (the square of this
number gives the antenna noise (SEFD) in Jy - the smaller the better).
Comments.
Torun seems to be much less sensitive than expected. See the EVN Status Table.
Fringe-fit phase solutions
(including Parallactic Angle correction).
Comments.
Fringe-fit delay solutions
.
Comments.
Tr: there were large variations in residual delay (40-80 ns) during the experiment - this may indicate a MASER problem (although the rates were very low); after the first hour, only the bright fringe-finders were detected
Fringe-fit rate solutions

Telescope bandpasses

Comments.
Calibrated amplitude and phase against time
(a priori amplitude calibration and fringe-fit solutions applied).
Comments.
Tr: after the first hour, only the bright fringe-finders were detected
Sh: no fringes in L1/R1, corresponding to BBCs #1 and #2
